About us

Previously know as Advanced Critical Care Practitioners - Northern Region (ACCPNR), we are a not-for-profit, unincorporated association, providing peer-support and CPD opportunities for ACCPs primarily working within the North East, North Cumbria & Yorkshire regions.

Although our geographical area covers North Cumbria, North East and Yorkshire, all advanced practice colleagues who share a specialist interest in critical care (in and outside of a conventional critical care unit) are welcome to join our community. We welcome members regardless of their FICM ACCP membership and/or NHS England Digital Badge status. Members may be admitted to the committee if they currently work within the North East, North Cumbria or Yorkshire regions.

Our History

ACCPNYR was originally founded in 2017 by three qualified ACCP colleagues, Alexandra Gatehouse, Jillian Kelly and Sadie Diamond-Fox.

The association was originally known as Advanced Critical Care Practitioners Northern Region (ACCPNR) until 2024 when the association underwent a major rebrand to reflect the NHS Integrated Care Board regions in which the committee operates.

Originally based out of Newcastle NHS Hospitals in Newcastle upon Tyne, the association has since grown its committee membership to span across North Cumbria, North East and Yorkshire.

The first symposium was held at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne on 24th March 2017. The association has proudly hosted multiple events across the region since 2017, bar a hiatus during the COVID19 pandemic.

Our Mission, Visions & Values

MISSION

To compassionately provide a support network to both trainee and qualified ACCPs and APCCs within our region and beyond.

To foster a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment in which our members may share their expertise and experiences to promote continuing professional development (CPD).

To engage our advanced practitioner workforce through scholarship, education and collaboration to promote the CPD of all four pillars of advanced practice.
